Pain Management Unit

The Acute Pain Service (AOS) is Canberra Hospital and Health Services (CHHS) inpatient service for post-operative pain management.

This service is managed by a multidisciplinary team that provide consultant services across the campus covering all inpatient clinical areas.

Studies have shown that if acute pain is not appropriately managed and expeditiously treated, then a small percentage may develop chronic (persistent) pain.

The Chronic Pain Service

Chronic Pain is identified by pain that persists for more than 3 months following its onset and is referred to as chronic or persistent pain.

Chronic Pain affects all aspects of a persons life, and this service aims to reduce the impact through a multidisciplinary approach.  Research has shown that this approach is an effective way of assisting patients to manage chronic pain.
